Luna de Miel

That means honeymoon in Spanish. We have spent the past 10 days exploring Costa Rica. Our first hotel exceeded our expectations and unfortunately set the bar so high no other place could even compare. After a very rough 3 hour car ride we arrived to our first destination- Arenal. As we went though the town we were nervous as to what awaited us. We continued through the town and up the mountain and turned on a dirt road. The road was so full of potholes that it would make any dirt road in South Lyon at its worst look good. We both held our breath as we drove up the driveway. As soon as we got there we were greeted by the most friendly staff and delicious welcome drink. We were whisked to our private bungalow and were in heaven for 5 days.

Our first day we spent relaxing and exploring our new grounds.




The second day we went zip lining through the rain forest. It was an amazing experience. We were up 600ft and the line was ½ mile long. Unfortunately it started to rain and as we were zipping through the forest we began to be pelted by the rain. At one point it was raining so hard we couldn’t even see as we made it from point a to point b.

After zip lining we decided to go to the hot springs. It was an amazing place that was made from natural hot springs. I couldn't believe how hot the water was.






The third day we went rappelling down waterfalls. This was Andrews favorite thing that we did.






On the 4th day we decided to head to La Fortuna waterfall. This was the only one where we had to provide our own transportation. Earlier in the morning we asked to exchange 100 dollars but the hotel didn’t have any change. So, Andrew apparently asked me if I had money and I said yea (the same money from the day before) so he didn’t bring any cash. As we arrived to the waterfall we paid the taxi driver $20 which left us with 13 dollars. We went up to the window to pay to get in the waterfall and they say it will be $18. We gave them our credit card and they said solamente cash (only cash). So here we are, with no money to get into the waterfall, no money to get back to the hotel and miles away from a bank. I couldn’t believe that Andrew didn’t have any money and he felt the same way about me. Luckily some fellow guests at our hotel heard us “discussing” our predicament and offered us 5 dollars. We were able to go into the waterfall and figured we would worry about the ride back later. So we looked at views like this







As we walked back up the mountain we started thinking about what we were going to do. We ended up meeting two ladies and they asked if they wanted to split a cab. So we dropped them off in the city and the driver took us up to the hotel. We told the taxi driver “un momento” and Andrew took off to the room to see if the hotel could finally break our 100. Of course they couldn’t and the taxi driver was just sitting, waiting to be paid. So we asked the hotel to borrow money. They let us and we decided to go get lunch and drink off the morning stress. We sat down and Andrew asked. “where is the bag?”. I said, “I don’t know I thought you had it.” Andrew says, “SHIT”. Apparently he hooked the bag on a nail while he toweled off and left it there. Well now we were in quite the predicament because we didn’t have any money to take a taxi there or back and we really didn’t know where the bag was. So the hotel called the waterfall place and they had the bag which had our brand new camera and our wallet with credit cards……no cash. Luckily they had the bag and the hotel arranged for a taxi to pick it up and bring it back to our hotel and put it on our IOU. We were so lucky that our camera and wallets made it back safe and sound.
